They always put it short as possible so it is easier to have clothes with it on

it is team great britain, team gb is just a shorter version of it

My suggestion: it would be for marketing purposes.

Team GB fits on T-shirts, caps and mugs etc much easier than Team Great Britain would.

It makes sense to me.

And team france is FRA and team germany is GER and team china is CHN. It's the same for everyone.

Because GB is simply shorter for Great Britain, and on all the clothes worn by the athletes, it says GB instead of Great Britain as Great Britain would have been to long to put on.

So now people have automatically started calling the us Team GB, as that is what is on all the athletes kit. They both mean exactly the same thing. ♥

It hasn't been lost on us all that GB stands also for Gordon Brown. We are in his team - the winning one!

Because the BBC has coined this silly phrase "Team GB" and it is therefore now the official view and so "politically correct" . As everybody surely knows the media and all politicians in this day and age has to adhere to the requirements of political correct terminology on everything until such time as a new politically correct term for any particular subject or section of humanity has been subsequently coined..

GB stands for Great Britain!
2008-08-26 03:09:14 UTC
because it would take longer to say Team Great Britain as supposed to Team GB. plus, most countries would know by now what GB stands for.

Everyone is wrong. A country's shorter name in the Olympics has to be three letters. So Great Britian stands for GBR not GB. But I'm not sure what GB means.
