She is a fraud. Money was more important. She really thought she would never get caught and when she did, she wanted us to feel sorry for her. I hope that kids learn a listen from this.

I think a majority of athletes use steroids or HGH these days. It's very sad because the definition of "sports" implies that there is a fair competition. The dopers have ruined thousands of years of sports history.

Given she's been found guilty of perjury, that is deliberatly and wilfully lying to a legally constituted commission of inquiry then in my view she has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
In summation she's a proved cheat, liar and taker of illegal substances who attempted to pervert the course of justice by lying.
Does this make her a bad person? YES

no just a person who got caught up with winning and once you tell one lie you have to tell another to cover it up and soforth and soon you are drowning in a pool of lies

I would say she is a despicable person but not a bad person. Cheating everyone for almost a decade is a very despicable since she is very much a public figure.

I don't think she is a bad person necessarily, but she made some obviously bad choices, and she is now paying the price for her actions. She should be forgiven once her debt to society has been paid (i.e. 6 months in jail), because she will have to live in shame for the rest of her life as it is.

Sure she'll admit to a "Mistake" because she's been caught. For years she lied and denied even though she knew what she was taking would possibly give her that edge she needed to be one of the top three to number one. It was the same for McGuire. the year he hit 70 out he could have hit 55 without the steroid help. For him he only had to increase his bat speed by 4% in order to put 20 more out that wouldn't have gone out...He knew that like I know it. Sure you'll look a little bit bigger but not huge, that's not the point. I knew the coaches for Marion and I followed her carrer from the start. For the last six years she started to show different. Better defination, a little larger, more power and endurance strength, all this with a little help of course. She knew it couldn't be detected by current test standards and that's what she used to say..."I've never tested positive"......that leaves a little to be desired as being an accurate statement. The check scheme she should have distanced herself from that at the first sign of a problem, but she didn't...just another mistake....how can she call it that if she knew things were wrong and chose not to reveal it....Had she not been caught she'd still be near the top and competeing right now...Saying it was only a mistake allows for the thought of forgiveness....and that I can't do.
I know a guy who's stolen three cars and never been caught. So lets ask him...."Have you ever been convicted of auto theft" Of course his answer will be NO. Once he's caught he then reveals or it's proven he's stolen the three others...he knows right from wrong and for him to say I made a mistake would really read, my mistake was getting caught...he's still a thief.

I am going to go with #1.
But I completely agree with your point. Using the " I just made a mistake line" is rheotric spewed by to many, to explain any type of activity regardless of the severity or duration of their bad behavior.
Marion is a complete disgrace, but i think actually knows better, which rules her out from being a bad person.
She should have paid better attention to Mr Vick though. Vick didn't say it was a mistake, and their isn't anything he can do about it now like Marion. Instead he came off as if he understood how bad he messed up, made a long and sincere apology, and didn't try to belittle his misdeeds. For that reason, i still think people have some respect for Vick.

Marion Jones is an incredible being, that she is and she did make a mistake and thats that. It follows that the bigger you are the harder you fall, sort of, but she is a big spirit and can rebound from this. It was a mistake, I am sure you made mistakes in your life, probably smoked some Pot, had sex with the wrong person, maybe picked a wrong career or friends At some point. Those are mistakes, the only real mistake is to continue to make the same ones..plus I saw some of the pictures from the Olympics and I think there might have been others who "made the same mistake" . Marion Jones all I can saw is I know you have it in you to create a wonderful life YOU are special. And I forgive you !!

Along with the drug use, perjury, obstructing a federal investigation, did she say the check fraud scam was a mistake too.
She understood what she was doing and continued to lie to cover up her actions.
If you are an honest person you should try to correct your mistakes when you realize what you have done is wrong.
She harmed many people and the sport that made her famous and rich.
I am sure she understands the difference between a mistake and her actions, but I do not know if she will accept the fact she was wrong on if she will rationalize her actions so she can justify it.
