Don't forget the number of wonderful athletes who were born overseas and have proudly worn the green and gold after competing for their old countries. Yesterday it was Maria Peckli, who just missed out on a medal in Judo for Australia after representing her home nation of Hungary several times. That's Aussie spirit!

Yes there has been over the years a sport like football when they did not make the Australian team they still had their other citizenship from the home country like Croatia and they played for that country. They were born there and came to Australia to live but they still have strong ties with their home land. I think this if fine, remember they did try for the Australian team first but did not get picked. I'm sorry I do not know the names and when this happened I think it was even at the last Olympics.

I think there was a medallist in Athens in the women's triathlon who is an Aussie but represented Austria. From memory, she is married to an Austrian and has lived there for some years.

If there are, and I am sure that there are some, good luck to them, they should be proud of getting to the olympics for the country they now call theirs, after all we accepted a whole plethora of atheletes from other countries that went on to wear the green and gold, and no one called them traitors

Some children born out of parents, born overseas can be a holders of two passports. Australian and the country or countries his parents came from. It is legal.

Now the young man didn't make the times for the Olympic nomination by Aussie standards, but makes the nomination to represent some small country in the World which doesn't have such high levels and is willing to send the man to represent their land in the Olympics.

I don't see anything wrong in the decision to take up this offer by some Australian athlete who can't make it in down-under.

It is just a sport after all, not a battle between countries.

I personally known two of them, but not allowed to tell their names.

Doesn't really answer your question, but let's not forget "Western Australia's own" Lucinda Fredericks, born in Zambia, or somewhere in Africa, who moved to, and resides in, the UK, where she met her Australian husband! They are both representing Australia in the equestrian events.
